Contest Hope

Hope: 'Person or thing giving cause for hope'

As I drove to Nth Avalon Beach on Saturday May 8 in the early hours of the morning, I knew this day would be a day filled with His hope for a generation that would do things we have never seen before. That this day we would make a further impact on the youth of this area for Him and His kingdom. Some people look at what we do and think it is just a nice contest for the youth of the beaches, but it is so much more. It's a time where we bring hope to where they are at, where they hangout, we bring it to their world instead of expecting them to come into our world.

As we gathered the 50 or so contestants to go over the rules for the first ever Surf Tag contest for Under 18's anywhere on the northern beaches, you could sense that the Hope was rising, the excitement, the expectancy from the youth, they were itching to get in the water. The rules were read, we then prayed committed the day and the contest to Him, and the Hope levels in the team began to rise even more as we knew God had given us this day to declare His Hope and to make History.

The hooter sounded, the first surfers ran into the water and started paddling out to catch their first wave.

Competition was fierce throughout the contest especially on everyone's second wave as it was worth double points.

Two heats and then a final were held for the surfers and the bodyboarders had a straight tag final.

Throughout the day we received positive feedback of what a great opportunity we were offering these young surfers, by offering them surf tag.

At Hope we held the Spring/Summer Series end of season preso along with the preso for Hope. The competitors were stoked with the prizes and so thankful to our sponsors for the prizes and all they do for Surf For Life. Just the same as we are so thankful to our sponsors who help make Surf For Life possible they are Land and Sea Sports, Red back, The Link Church, Bodyboarders Surf Co, Pittwater Council and Kellogg's.

Contest Hope 2010 - what an amazing day! We look forward to Hope 2011.

On behalf of the Surf For Life crew I would like to thank all the competitors, parents, sponsors, for their support of the Surf For Life Spring/Summer Series and Hope. We look forward to seeing you later in the year for the start of the Spring/Summer 10/11 series.

See you on the beach,

Richie Marrett & the SFL Crew
