Genesis 4:7 (NIV) “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Devotion
In this verse, God speaks directly to Cain, warning him of the danger that lies in failing to choose righteousness. Sin is personified as a predator, waiting to pounce when we lower our guard. But God, in His mercy, also offers the solution: doing what is right and ruling over sin. This requires us to make intentional choices to pursue righteousness and live a life pleasing to God.
The enemy seeks to use every opportunity to gain a foothold in our hearts, especially when we give in to anger, jealousy, or pride. These emotions, when unchecked, lead us down a dangerous path that can result in broken relationships and a distance from God’s presence. However, when we choose to obey God, we close the door on sin and keep our hearts aligned with His will.
God’s acceptance is not based on perfection but on the posture of our hearts. When we repent and pursue righteousness, we are met with His grace and favor. The key is to guard our hearts and resist the enemy’s schemes through prayer, accountability, and intentional obedience to God’s Word. Don’t be “Clean, but empty”, be “Clean, and full of obedience”.
