Fasting Day 4 - Wednesday February 5th.

The Link Church

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Devotion

Imagine a red wagon filled with 100 bricks, the handle being pulled by your hand with all your might...eventually, you will become exhausted. Your body will start to ache in pain from the heaviness as you strive to get to the top of the hill.

Each brick signifies our burdens that we tend to carry in our everyday wagon. Whether that might be grief, heartache, worry, guilt, or shame - Jesus can carry it all for you.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28, “‘Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.’” Stop your wagon of bricks and hand them all to your Heavenly Father.

The wagon of all our sorrows does not need to stay in the weight of our hands because we cannot carry that weight - but, Jesus’ hands can for he is the Great I Am!

God doesn’t want us to walk with our heavy bricks and continue to add more. Lay them all down at Yahweh’s feet because He wants to carry the bricks and help us to walk with an empty wagon. As Jesus tells us in his Word in the book of Matthew, “‘my yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light’”, take comfort in this!

“Yoke” means a shared work or responsibility...share your bricks and give them all to the Lord! “Light burden” means the weight of following Jesus is not heavy nor oppressive.

As the New Year begins, stop your wagon and unload your bricks to the King of Kings and Prince of Peace, Jesus.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 KJV)... seek Him, God is your safe haven and giver of strength.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for holding the bricks of burdens that we are unable to hold. Help me to release them to You and let them go as this New Year begins. Give me strength Lord to let go and let Your yoke flow through. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I may walk in light and not heaviness. Help me to unload the burdens of my life into Your hands Jesus. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Apply It Today

Scripture tells us in Hebrews 12:1 to strip off every weight that slows us down. The weights can be in the form of sin, temptations, or the cares and worries of life. Today, as you fast and pray, give your burdens to the Lord and ask for His wisdom and guidance in each area of your life.
