Ezra 8:23 (NIV)"So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and He heard our prayer."

Devotion
As we step into a new year, there is no better way to align our hearts with God’s purposes than through prayer and fasting. This spiritual discipline isn’t merely about abstaining from food; it is about feasting on the presence of God, seeking His face, and inviting His power into every area of our lives.
Fasting sharpens our spiritual sensitivity and strengthens our dependence on God. As we deny ourselves physical sustenance, we make room for God’s Word and presence to nourish our spirits and in turn affect our natural well-being. That’s the miraculous power of prayer and fasting!
Let us draw inspiration from the following individuals in scripture who experienced this power:
Ezra and the Journey to Jerusalem (Ezra 8:21-23): Ezra led the Israelites in fasting to seek God’s protection for their journey to Jerusalem. God responded by granting them safety and success.
Esther’s Fast for Deliverance (Esther 4:16): Facing the annihilation of her people, Queen Esther called for a three-day fast before approaching the king. God granted her favor, and her boldness saved the Jewish people.
Jehoshaphat’s Fast for Deliverance (2 Chronicles 20:3-4): Facing a massive enemy army, King Jehoshaphat called for a fast throughout Judah. As the people sought God, He miraculously delivered them by turning their enemies against each other.
Jesus’ Fast Before His Ministry (Matthew 4:1-11): Before beginning his ministry, Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness. During this time, he overcame temptation and emerged in the power of the Holy Spirit, ready to fulfill his mission.
These examples remind us that fasting strengthens us to face challenges and equips us for new chapters. It is a declaration of great trust in the God who answers prayer.
This year, commit to 21 days of prayer and fasting as we dedicate 2025 to the Lord. Together, let’s seek His guidance, intercede for our families, and align our hearts with His will.
